About Sebastian Aravena

Sebastian was born Juán Sebastián Aravena Ponce de León in Santiago, Chile to Bernardo Aravena Echaurren (also a working artist) and Ana Maria Ponce de León Vergara (an entrepeneur). After his birth, Sebastian lived along the Chilean coast in Valparaiso, Viña del Mar, and Con Con while his parents were completing their university degrees. His parents seperated when Sebastian was 3 years old and his mother remaried and moved to the United States with her new husband. Sebastian lived his formative years in Miami, Florida.

Born to a long line of artists, Sebastian had always gravitated to being creative. In middle school and high school he always took art classes. From 3D art, to painting, to photography. In high school Sebastian was always expressing his talent. painting at home, drawing in his free time, painting grafiti, and photographing. It was no surprise that he would follow this passion into college and beyond. Sebastian attended New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. He majored in drawing before switching to Cyber Art. Here, Sebastian worked under Jeremy Gardiner creating 3D models of colonial Brazillian architecture. After four semesters Sebastian decided to broaden his knowledge of digital art and enrolled at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL.

After graduation Sebastian began a career in digital media. He worked in advertising agencies and as an in-house desginer and developer for numerous large companies in the Central Florida area. While constantly working on side projects and after over 20 years of graphic design and digital media work, Sebastian decided to dedicate his full efforts on creating art for himself.

Sebastian has always been an active person. He has been surfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and cycling (BMX and mountainbiking) since he was a child. These activities have taken him around the world searching for the best wave, highest peak, and next challenge. Nature, trails, and the ocean have always been Sebastian's playground. It is where he finds solace. Sebastian can be paddling through over-head whitewater in Punta de Lobos or pedaling up hill for hours to Paradise Divide; and he is at peace.

In his art, Sebastian likes to share both his love and concern for what makes him happy. Nature. From the beauty of landscapes to the horific catastrophes that humans have put on his playgrounds.
